Alumni Focus
We are pleased to spotlight two UMMC residency alumni and current faculty, Drs. Ira Dan Harber and Caitlyn Reed.
Jordie Ivey, MD
After residency, Dr. Ivey moved back to Alabama and joined a private, physician-owned dermatology practice in Huntsville. Jordie writes, "I practice a mix of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. My husband Ross and I have a 3.5-year-old son named Sam, and we welcomed triplets Mary Virginia, Margaret, and Charlie in May 2025. Parenting four kids takes up most of my time these days, but I do love to read or take a pilates class if I have any free time! My two closest friends from residency, Alex Jenkins and Alex Noble, recently visited Huntsville with their families to meet the triplets. We try to get our families together every Labor Day Weekend. I am so thankful for UMMC for not only giving me a wonderful dermatology education but for allowing me to meet lifelong friends!"

Alex Noble, MD
After completing her dermatology residency in 2022, Alex went on to complete the UMMC dermatopathology fellowship the following year. Upon graduating from the dermatopathology fellowship, she spent a year staffing the VA dermatology clinic in Jackson and reading dermatopathology cases at UMMC. Alex loved working alongside her UMMC attendings and teaching the residents; she feels that year was one of the highlights of her career thus far. She went on to work at a dermatology clinic and dermatopathology practice in Greenville, SC, while her husband completed his fellowship training. Alex recently joined Dermatology Group of the Carolinas, where she plans to continue practicing dermatology and dermatopathology. Alex enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, Elizabeth (3.5 years) and James (20 months).
Alex writes, "I feel so lucky to have trained and worked at UMMC. All the teaching and guidance from the attendings, peers, and patients have prepared me well for my career. Not only did I become the dermatologist and dermatopathologist I am today thanks to UMMC, but I made lasting friendships with my co-residents who have become some of my best friends. I made so many memories during my time in Jackson, from clinic and consults to Christmas parties and baby showers. I will be forever grateful for the training, guidance, and friendship I received during my time at UMMC."
